Local TCP/IP Connection -
No DNS
Your server and workstations will not have a
connection to the Internet, but you have decided
that you would like to set up a TCP/IP network. You
will not provide local DNS system. Your clients
will be able to access your AppleShare IP Web, FTP,
and Mail servers by using the server's IP
address.
You will have to assign unique IP addresses to
all TCP/IP clients and servers on the local
network. Please refer to AppleShare IP Help manual
for information on Private Network IP Addressing.
In addition, the TCP/IP Connections tutorial on the
AppleShare IP CD provides a detailed explanation on
IP addressing.
Briefly, you can use the following ranges of IP
addresses on a local network.
- 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
- 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
- 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
Follow these steps to correctly set up your
AppleShare IP server:
- Prepare your computer as detailed in Chapter
1 of AppleShare IP Getting Started manual.
- Configure the TCP/IP control panel of the
AppleShare IP server with assigned static IP
address. Enter Router address if this is an
extended network.
- Install AppleShare IP as instructed Chapter
2 of AppleShare IP Getting Started manual for
Custom Setup.
- In the AppleShare IP Easy Setup program,
choose "Normal" setup when prompted at the
"Choose a Network Type" screen.
